Superfly During Jazz Fest:A Festival Of Its Own Begun in 1997 out of a demand for additional music events during the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival season, the Superfly during Jazz Fest Concert Series is an annual, citywide music festival revered by thousands of avid fans from all over the country. Spanning two weekends in late spring to coincide with the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, series performances have taken place at the most venerated music venues in New Orleans, including premier theatres, nightclubs, and special event sites such as: State Palace Theatre Saenger Theatre Contemporary Arts Center Orpheum Theatre Tipitina's Howlin' Wolf Republic Riverboat Cajun Queen Maple Leaf Bar Drawing its own loyal audience, the Superfly during Jazz Fest Concert Series dominates club and theater activities during the Jazz Fest season, with dozens of nighttime and late-night events featuring some of the hottest acts on the local and national circuit. Synergizing simultaneous shows and activities at a variety of venues and formats, the Series creates a valuable enhancement to the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival season. Over the course of its twelve-year existence, the Superfly During Jazz Fest Concert Series has developed into a destination for progressive programming, and a springboard for next-phase artists and supergroups such as Oysterhead (Trey Anastasio of Phish, Les Claypool of Primus, and Stewart Copland of the Police), which made its debut at Superfly during Jazz Fest 2000. The legendary Oysterhead show was part of Superfly's innovative "SuperJam" series - a favorite among festival patrons - which brings together local and national musicians for spontaneous, one-off, all star shows. Past Superfly During Jazz Fest concerts have featured performances by a diverse range of top quality local and national artists, including Ben Harper, Gov't Mule, Medeski Martin & Wood, Galactic, and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band. | |||
