Description: | From 46th annual Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival Website: The Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival is held every year on the second full weekend of April, with the exception of years in which Easter poses a conflict on those dates. This years 2017 event will mark the 46th year of the Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival.
The Ponchatoula Strawberry festival was started in Ponchatoula, LA in 1971 by a small group of local citizens who were members of the Chamber of Commerce and Junior Chamber (Jaycees). The local community of Ponchatoula has a population of over 6550 in the city limits and approximately 21,500 within the 70454 zip code.
This small nonprofit fund raising event began on a single side street in Ponchatoula, and as its popularity grew, it transformed into a major Louisiana event that features; vendor booths, rides and amusements, live entertainment featured on 3 stages, a state level beauty pageant, 10K road race and downtown parade. From its humble beginning the Ponchatoula Strawberry festival is now a major, 3 day Louisiana event that hosts over 350,000 visitors and generates needed nonprofit revenue for approximately 100 plus organizations. Friday night is reserved specifically for family night. A unique and important attribute of this festival is its status of allowing only nonprofit vendors to sell products on the festival grounds.
